For Rheingau winemaker Mark Barth, his profession is a combination of precision and emotion. His wines should make people happy and radiate inner peace. To achieve this, he relies on consistent manual work and controlled quality paired with trained intuition. It goes without saying that all grapes are grown organically. With all this, at least three hearts beat in Barth's chest: one for the grape varieties Riesling and Pinot Noir, one for his Hassel, Wisselbrunnen and Schönhell sites and their personality, and one for his sparkling wine. In the vineyard, he focuses on yield reduction. On his 22 hectares, he harvests an average of just 60 hl/ha. In the cellar, he is a balance artist who places wood and stainless steel in perfect harmony. This is how the typical Barth wines are created - touching and honest, just as they were vinified.

When it comes to sparkling wine, winemaker Mark Barth is a man of conviction - in the industry he is considered a pioneer of Riesling Lagensekt. "I want to show the grape variety in its purest form and support it with the traditional bottle fermentation method. The long lees ageing gives the sparkling wine contour, creaminess and its individual character," he says. For Barth, this means giving the base wines a corresponding expressiveness. Organic cultivation and gentle harvesting are as much a matter of course as the selection of grapes, gentle whole bunch pressing and a lot of manual work - a bottle of sparkling wine is touched around 55 times before it goes on sale.
