Weingut Stefan Zehetbauer

The winery is run by the tenth generation of Stefan Zehetbauer. It is located in Schützen am Gebirge, in the middle of the Leithaberg region. Zehetbauer's vineyards are located on and around the Schützner Stein and are characterised by the slate and limestone-rich soils of the region. The vineyards are the winemaker's top priority, where the foundation for quality is laid. Interventions in the cellar, on the other hand, are reduced to the necessary minimum. Pure yeasts and enzymes are not used, fermentation is spontaneous, the wines remain on the lees for a long time, and the white reserves and all red wines do not require fining. The idea of terroir is paramount. It is Stefan Zehetbauer's concern to press wines with depth, a distinctive minerality and development potential.
The Leithaberg varieties Blaufränkisch, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay make up the majority of the range. The top wines come from the Steinberg vineyard, which with its barren mica slate is one of the best sites in the region. But the family has always thought outside the box. With their unique Cabernet Franc from the Steinberg, for which the Zehetbauers were among the pioneers in Austria at the end of the 80s, they have meanwhile made a name for themselves.
