I took over the management of the family vineyard in 2009 and immediately converted the business to organic farming. The reason for the metamorphosis was twofold. On the one hand, I wanted to make the soils sustainable and vibrant, and on the other, I am convinced that the wines can express their origins more precisely and authentically in this way. The terroir is very impressive! Veltliner and Riesling are rooted in the Kellerberg and also in two of its very different sub-sites within the famous mountain: in the "Wunderburg", a loess-covered, highly mineralised site and in the "Küß den Pfennig", an extremely barren and stony site.

Other top sites are Hollerin, Supperin, Klostersatz..

The range is complemented by a little Gelber Muskateller, which, like the Veltiner and Riesling, is matured for a long time on the fine lees. This gives them additional density and perfectly complements the elegant and fruity character and mineral depth that run like a common thread through Schmidl's wines.
