Weingut Familie Prieler
Info:
The farm at the upper end of the main street in Schützen am Gebirge already has 150 years of history behind it. Today, Prieler is one of Austria's best-known wineries with its complex and elegant wines. It is run like a real "family estate". The Prielers have always been champions of quality and independence - even when Engelbert and Irmgard Prieler took over the winery from their grandfather in 1972 and from the very beginning focused even more on quality than quantity. But the young generation was also able to achieve great success. Blaufränkisch Today, Goldberg is one of the most famous red wines in Austria!
The wines from Prieler are strongly influenced by the soil. Their different composition and minerality make up the character of the individual sites. Around the mountain "Schützner Stein", a whole range of high-quality soil types, distributed over different cardinal points and altitudes, come together
Shell limestone, mica slate, ferruginous brown loam.
A total of 24 hectares of vines are currently cultivated at the Prieler winery, planted with 40% white wine such as Pinot Blanc and 60% red wine, mainly Blaufränkisch. Prieler owns many well-known and historic sites that wine lovers know: Seeberg, Ungerbergen and the famous site - the Goldberg. In the neighbouring village of Oggau, the Prielers were also able to acquire high-quality sites such as Marienthal in the early 90s. The family is convinced: "The combination of a great site with the right grape variety and the unique microclimate of the region produce wines that will be remembered".
