Our winery has been farming organically since 1989. My father was a pioneer of organic farming in the Palatinate. He was already making wines in harmony with nature when very few winegrowers understood their vineyard as a living place. The desire to preserve our cultural landscape drove us one step further in 2007: to biodynamic cultivation. The idea behind this is to give impulses, to initiate processes in the vineyard and cellar and then to take a step back. Membership in the demeter association is a commitment to this way of working.
Biodynamics is a return to old values. Diversity and liveliness are brought to the fore. The work with preparations, the production of one's own compost or simply the orientation towards the natural rhythms. All this has a very subtle effect on the soil and plants and improves their structure in the long term. The goal is a living vineyard characterised by cover crop and a variety of herbs. This results in authentic wines that are unique in expression, depth and complexity. Naturally certified by the DEMETER and ECOVIN growing associations.
The abundance of sites and soils in the Palatinate allows for a wide range of grape varieties. Especially the local varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir make their origin tangible. Bringing out the different soils is my great passion. The ageing in large and small wooden barrels is an important factor in promoting the longevity of our wines. The minimal air contact through the pores of the wood gives the wine the necessary backbone for a long life during maturation. Serenity, calm, time is our maxim in the cellar.
Producing wines with nature and not against it has always been our incentive. We want to bottle originals, individualists, heads of character that make their origin clear. Time, patience and sensitivity instead of technology and recipe thinking.
