The story
The MARKO winery was founded in 1955 by Johann Markowitsch senior. Hans Markowitsch junior brought new ideas and the most modern working methods to the vineyard and cellar. Today's manager, Lukas Markowitsch, is the third generation to run the winery. The joy of both preserving proven tradition and sensible innovation has not diminished to this day.
The vineyard
In the vineyard, special attention is paid to health, quality growth and yield. The soil has not been treated with chemicals for a long time; the necessary nutrients come from green manure and a little manure from the stables.
The wine cellar
MARKO trains the wines differently, depending on the variety and content. For example, some light, sparkling white wines are aged in stainless steel; the stronger ones, as well as all red wines, in good oak barrels. A few, particularly outstanding red wines, however, are matured in barriques, most of which come from their country of origin.
