Wineguide:
Weingut Kurt Bug
Info:
The winery has existed since 1680 and has been run as a pure family business in Hallgarten for generations. in 2014, the siblings Yvonne and Sebastian took over the business. And it goes without saying that their passion for viticulture was born in their cradle. The siblings have been involved in their parents' business since childhood.
Sebastian completed his knowledge and experience at Schloss Johannisberg with his apprenticeship and 15 years as a winemaker. While Yvonne initially pursued a commercial career, she is now responsible for sales and commercial tasks at the winery.
Motto of the family business in Hallgarten:
With the love of the vines to great wines
Sebastian and senior chef Ulli are responsible for over 6 hectares of vineyards, as well as the associated cellar management and quality control.
As a Rheingau winery, the grape varieties Riesling and Spätburgunder are in the foreground. The vineyards are located in the Hallgartener Jungfer, Hendelberg, Würzgarten and Schönhell vineyards as well as the Oestricher Doosberg. The majority of the vineyards are so-called classified vineyards in which a Rheingau Grosses Gewächs may be cultivated. The Rheingau Grosse Gewächs therefore also forms the top of the winery's wine collection.
Sebastian Bug attaches great importance to gentle soil cultivation. With possible renunciation of plant protection and thus follows the premise of environmentally friendly viticulture. True to the motto: As much as necessary - as little as possible!
Sebastian puts his heart and soul into his work in the vineyard and also into the vinification process in the cellar. To achieve the high quality he strives for, he works with great care and, as far as possible, according to ecological approaches. The intention is to interfere with nature as little as possible. To achieve this, constant monitoring of the vineyards up to the harvest is indispensable. And later also a daily control in the cellar until bottling.
