Weingut Jülg
Info:
The Jülg family winery is located in Schweigen, right on the German-French border in the Southern Palatinate. Werner and his son Johannes Jülg work hand in hand to cultivate around 25 hectares of vines here. The focus is on Pinot varieties and Riesling.
While Werner Jülg is responsible for the production of sparkling wine with great patience and dedication, Johannes gives the wines an unmistakable signature after his many years of training at renowned wineries in Germany and France: elegant, precise and, above all, terroir-orientated. Wines that stand like real blokes in the glass and leave a lasting impression.
A curiosity - 50% of the winery's vineyards are located on French territory in Wissembourg. Before Schengen, you always had to carry your passport with you when working in the vineyard.
Harvesting by hand is standard practice, the grapes are gently pressed and the wines are given plenty of time to mature in a mix of stainless steel and large and small wooden barrels. This is the only way for the young winemaker to bring out the different characters of the vineyards: Wines with a natural character that are originally characterised by the soil and the region to reflect their origins of French tradition and German innovation. This has been the Jülg family's credo since 1961.
