The Joh. Bapt. Schäfer winery is located on the lower Nahe in Burg Layen near Rümmelsheim, a few kilometres northeast of Bad Kreuznach. Sebastian Schäfer took over the winery in 2002, the fourth generation to do so, from his father Johann Baptist Schäfer. There are currently 8 hectares of vineyards under cultivation. Sebastian Schäfer's goal is to produce individual wines with strong character that perfectly reflect their terroir. The winery has been a member of Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since 2013.
