Tenuta San Leonardo
Info:
What was a monastery over a millennium ago has been the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family for almost three centuries, who venerate and preserve it with great devotion. Today, the San Leonardo estate is a garden of vineyards and roses, protected by the massive barrier of the Alps, which dampen the force of the cold north winds and welcome the mild breeze from nearby Lake Garda.
San Leonardo covers a total area of 300 hectares, 33 of which are planted with vineyards, all of which are farmed organically. These are planted with Merlot, Cabernet and Carmenère, dedicated to the production of San Leonardo, the estate's iconic wine, and Terre di San Leonardo, its crisp, finely balanced second wine. Merlot and Carmenère combine to produce the refined Villa Gresti, while the oldest vines produce a remarkable single-varietal Carmenère.
Another 15 hectares in northern Trentino at altitudes between 400 and 600 metres produce the Sauvignon Blanc grapes for Vette di San Leonardo and a Riesling. The first is crisp and fragrant, the second an elegant expression of this noble white grape.
The world of San Leonardo is ancient yet timeless, where meticulous processes that are still extremely artisanal today produce true jewels of Italian wine.
