St. Quirinus
Info:
Centuries ago, the monks of the Bavarian monastery of Tegernsee cultivated their wine in Oberplanitzing in Kaltern. The vineyards in Oberplanitzing, which was once called "Planties superior", supplied the wine that the Benedictines needed for themselves and the many high-ranking visitors. Even back then, they knew where good wine grew.
St Quirinus, the patron saint of the monastery, gave his name to the Sinn family's vineyard. A wayside shrine dedicated to St Quirinus, which once marked the boundary of the vineyards, still stands on the site today.
The cellar was planned and built according to functional principles: Much is left to gravity, unnecessary waste of energy runs counter to the overall concept.
The house is energy self-sufficient, has a heating system using regionally produced biomass and the option of collecting rainwater for the sanitary facilities and the garden.
The cellar is painted in typical wine colours: black and Bordeaux red dominate - alongside the materials steel, wood and clay for the wine barrels and amphorae.
