Shell limestone meets slate
In 2006, the newcomers, Marion and Alexander Rinke, took over vineyards in a location in the Langsurer Brüderberg that almost no one knew at the time. "In Galgenberg" is the name of the steep, partially terraced area of 2.5 ha between Igel and Wasserbillig (just before Luxembourg). A neglected gem on shell limestone, endowed with great potential. The duo revived this formerly planted gem with Elbling, completely cleared it, and replanted it predominantly with Chardonnay of old Burgundian genetics and a few supplementary varieties (including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gewürztraminer).

This leads to the "Gemischten Satz" or mixed set from the Langsurer Brüderberg. The wines produced from the Langsurer Brüderberg remind one of Chablis and other appellations of northern Burgundy, without being copies. In every white wine from the Langsurer Brüderberg, one can taste the exoticism of the "Gemischten Satz", so to speak a Chardonnay "with a twist". In recent years, the vineyard area in the Langsurer Brüderberg has been expanded to include Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). The Rinkes also rely on Burgundian clones with the lowest yield potential for Pinot Noir.

Since 2015, the two have also been cultivating some steep slopes along the Saar, again focusing on forgotten great sites. The vineyards along the Saar in Oberemmeler Altenberg, Wiltinger Klosterberg, and Wiltinger Braunfels have a high proportion of old vines, aged between 50 and 60 years. Their genetic diversity, combined with low yields, guarantees high-quality wines with typical Saar stylistics. The Saar wines from Marion and Alex Rinke (predominantly Riesling, but also Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and the very rare Frühburgunder (Pinot Madeleine/Pinot Noir Précoce)) are characterized by tension, finesse, and elegance. As one of the very few wineries on the Mosel, the two cultivate sites on shell limestone and slate. Shell limestone meets slate. Two worlds on the Mosel, each fascinating...
