Shell limestone meets slate
in 2006, newcomers Marion and Alexander Rinke took over vineyards in a location in the Langsurer Brüderberg that almost nobody knew about at the time. "Im Galgenberg" is the name given to the steep, partly terraced area of 2.5 hectares between Igel and Wasserbillig (just outside Luxembourg). An abandoned gem on shell limestone with great potential. The duo has revitalised this gem, formerly planted with Elbling, completely cleared and replanted with Chardonnay, mainly old Burgundian genetics, and a few supplementary vines (including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gewürztraminer).

This results in the "Gemischter Satz" or mixed set from the Langsurer Brüderberg. The resulting wines from the Langsurer Brüderberg are reminiscent of Chablis and other appellations from northern Burgundy, but without being copies. In every white wine from the Langsurer Brüderberg, you can taste the exoticism of the "Gemischter Satz", a Chardonnay "with a twist", so to speak. For some years now, the vineyard area in the
Langsurer Brüderberg has been expanded to include Pinot Noir (Pinot Noir). The Rinkes also rely on Burgundian clones with the lowest yields for Pinot Noir.

Since 2015, the two have also been cultivating several steep slopes on the Saar, again focussing on forgotten great sites. The vineyards on the Saar in Oberemmeler Altenberg, Wiltinger Klosterberg and Wiltinger Braunfels have a high proportion of old vines that are between 50 and 60 years old. Their genetic diversity, coupled with low yields, guarantee high-calibre wines with a typical Saar style. Marion and Alex Rinke's Saar wines (predominantly Riesling, but also Pinot Noir and the very rare Pinot Madeleine/Pinot Noir Précoce) are characterised by tension, finesse and elegance. The two vineyards are one of the very few wineries on the Moselle to cultivate sites on shell limestone and slate. Shell limestone meets slate. Two worlds on the Moselle, each fascinating in its own way....
