In the heart of the Styrian Vulkanland lies the Pfeifer Winery in picturesque St. Anna am Aigen.
Here - directly on the Wine Trail of the Senses - holidaymakers can escape the daily hustle and bustle in the Pfeifer family's guesthouse and enjoy the beautiful moments of life with a glass of wine while enjoying the magnificent view over the volcanic countryside.
Daniel Pfeifer has taken over the management of the family business from his parents. Deeply rooted in the Vulkanland, passion and inspiration are his daily companions when working in the vineyard or in the cellar. His motto: "Real development succeeds when you let things be. That's why I produce our wines as close to nature as possible: without herbicides, hand-picked and with a special focus on the terroir and sustainability."
The geological and climatic conditions in St. Anna are unique for the volcanic land. Ried Schemming, the winery's top site, rises like a limestone island from the volcanic sea. The soils are characterised by clay, shell limestone and volcanic basalt. The grapes enjoy many hours of sunshine in the Pannonian-Illyrian climate, but in the evenings it cools down earlier on the slopes of the Stradner Kogel. This gives rise to the distinctive fruit-acid interplay that is so typical of these close-knit, mineral plants and gives them their very special character.
From playful regional wines to local wines full of character to the deep, mineral wines of the Schemming vineyard, all bear the unique signature of Daniel Pfeifer and reflect the terroir of St. Anna.
