Montecalvi
Info:
Wine has been produced in Montecalvi since the 14th century. Montecalvi was for centuries part of the Castello di'Uzzano estate, once owned by Niccolò da Uzzano, a Florentine politician of the Medici era, and last owned by Don Briano Carlo Maria Castelbarco-Albani Visconti Simonetta dei principi di Montignano (the Count Castelbarco). It was farmed during this time according to the Mezzadria system, whereby local farmers farmed the estate for the Castello and shared the year's harvest with it.
Montecalvi became an independent estate in the 1980s and is now owned by the Drake family, owners of Collalto in Australia's Adelaide Hills region. We set about upgrading and modernising the vineyards, restoring the old vines (we have one of the oldest vineyards in Tuscany, planted in 1932) and replanting with native Italian grape varieties. We are now a certified organic winery and all we do is sustainable farming in the vineyard and producing wines (and olive oil) that best reflect our special place in our special part of Tuscany
