Lembergerland Winery Roßwag Wine history
Wine has been cultivated in Roßwag since the 8th century.
It was the monks of Maulbronn Monastery who recognised the benefits of the mineral-rich shell limestone soil and cultivated their vines here on the steep terraces.
As a result, Roßwag became known as a wine village beyond Baden-Württemberg.
Founded in 1935, the winegrowers' cooperative with 14 employees and its countless hard-working seasonal labourers is once again one of the most innovative addresses in the whole of Germany with its many events, legendary customer events and extensive capillary distribution in the catering and specialist trade.
200 active winegrowers at Lembergerland Kellerei Rosswag eG (Vaihingen/Enz) cultivate 150 hectares of vineyards, 40 hectares of which are terraced steep slopes with pure shell limestone soils - culturally and historically protected. "Edition 401 forms the brand essence of our range," reports Managing Director Christian Kaiser. "401 stands for four hundred and one Stäffele (steps), which stretch from the banks of the Enz river to our last Lemberger grape. "The equivalent of 23 floors of pure manual labour!"
The other sites in the Stromberg also have soils with Keuper deposits, which gives the wines even more fullness and vigour.
All of the wines produced here are diverse, deeply flavoursome, almost mystical and yet with a charming elegance. And always typical of the Lembergerland region.
Lived tradition is not only evident in the classics, which symbolise a sense of home. The multi-layered masterpieces in particular demand the utmost dedication and craftsmanship from the winemakers. From the cellar team, professionalism, years of experience and controlled idleness in order to preserve the qualities in the best possible way and bring them to the bottle.
