The beginnings of the Duprès/Kollmeyer wine house and sparkling wine cellar date back to the 17th century. The name Kollmeyer is first mentioned in the chronicles in 1650 as a wine shop, inn and brewery. The Kollmeyer family has been running the wine shop in its present form since 1792 and the wine house in Neustadt am Rübenberge on Löwenbrücke is still family-owned today. In 1888, "old" Fritz acquired the rights to use the cool vaulted cellars in Schloss Landestrost in Neustadt am Rübenberge in order to run a sparkling wine cellar alongside the wine house. As a connoisseur of "pearls in a glass", he appreciated the favourable conditions in the castle cellars, as the temperatures were ideal for producing sparkling wine of exceptional quality. in 1858, his son Fritz Kollmeyer was born, who would later in his life advance from pearl merchant to sparkling champagne producer. At a young age, he leaves Neustadt to make his own fortune. Nobody suspects that he will return years later as a rich man. The most valuable souvenir from his travels was not only the exquisite bubbles from the South Seas and treasures from foreign countries, but also the company Duprès & Co. Fritz Kollmeyer had founded it as a branch in the centre of Champagne in Reims. Duprès sparkling wine was widely recognised and was considered to be of outstanding quality, so that Duprès/Kollmeyer soon became a purveyor to the courts of many royal and stately homes. The house in Reims/Champagne was lost after the First World War. Jochen Plinke has dedicated himself to the top class of German sparkling wine culture.
