Domaines Schlumberger
Info:
Domaine Schlumberger is a family estate founded in 1810 in Guebwiller (Alsace, France) and 100% owned by the descendants of Nicolas Schlumberger (1782-1867). For more than 200 years and 7 generations, this family has cultivated and maintained this vineyard which is so special in many ways.
The history of this exceptional vineyard goes back to the time of the first Roman plantations, 2 centuries AD. It is under the influence of the princes abbots of Murbach (from the 8th to the 18th century) that the wines of the Guebwiller domain acquired their reputation. Thus we find in their writings the first quotations recalling the quality of our main terroirs, such as Saering (1250), Kessler (1394) or Kitterlé (1699). In 1810, at the end of the French Revolution, Nicolas Schlumberger settled in Guebwiller, where he founded his textile machinery factory. In order to put down roots, he bought about twenty hectares of vines: the SCHLUMBERGER estates were born. In 1920, Ernest Schlumberger, passionate about the vineyard, devoted his entire life to it. He was the only one to undertake considerable replanting work after the phylloxera crisis. Eric Beydon-Schlumberger also devoted himself entirely to the estate in 1971, replanting almost all of the aging vineyard, but also giving it its current international reputation. Alain Beydon-Schlumberger, his brother, completed his work in the 2000s by undertaking major investments in the cellar, in order to renew the equipment and modernise all the production tools. Today, Thomas-Beydon Schlumberger (Manager) and Séverine Beydon-Schlumberger are the custodians of this exceptional heritage.
Domaine Schlumberger is the largest independent vineyard in Alsace with 130 hectares of vines (118 hectares in production). The vineyard is mainly located on the communal banks of GUEBWILLER (110 hectares) and ROUFFACH (20 hectares), with also some plots in the town of BERGHOTZ.
