Azienda Agricola Pietro Cassina
Info:
Pietro Cassina, with the help of his wife and children, personally runs a small winery in Lessona in southern Piedmont, where the vineyards have belonged to his family for many generations.
Faithful to our philosophy, we trust in always offering better quality and always producing elegant wines suitable for everyday consumption as well as for the great occasion.
The company is located in Lessona in the province of Biella, a land in the north-east of Piedmont surrounded by hills and mountains, not far from Monte Rosa and Turin.
The property covers an area of about 7 hectares of vineyards and several hectares of surrounding woods, which create a special microclimate for growing Nebbiolo. The Lessona area is one of the few areas in Italy and in the world where this grape variety finds its ideal environment.
We are in the Super Vulcano area, also officially recognised by Unesco, where the "terroir" is very special, with a high acidity (3.5-3.7 ph). The abandonment of vineyards in the southern part of Piedmont at the beginning of the 20th century has meant that the 1300 or so vineyards are located on the most exposed plots, surrounded by woods that create an ideal microclimate for the cultivation of indigenous vines (Nebbiolo, Vespolina, Croatina, Erbaluce and Uva Rara). The Monte Rosa massif protects us from overly harsh winters and sultry summers.
