Malvirà
Info:
At the end of the 1970s, the Damonte Giuseppe winery opted for the name Malvirà, which in the Piedmontese dialect means badly turned. The old house where our father Giuseppe moved the winery is known in our small village by this term, because it has the neighbouring courtyard located to the north of the building instead of to the south as is traditional.
Malvirà in the 1970s could only count on a small vineyard area of 2.5 ha, now the vineyard area has exceeded 40 ha. The increase in surface area was possible thanks to the purchase of many small plots of land, sometimes as small as 1,000 metres, from various families who had over time decided to stop running vineyards.
Growth has been slow but steady over time, and now as many as 7 family members work on the farm, each with their own specific task.
The vines cultivated are the classic ones of the area, Arneis, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Bonarda Piemontese and Brachetto Lungo. We also have a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
White grape varieties make up about 50% of the total, and the vineyards are mainly in the Roero area except for about 1.5 ha in La Morra in the Barolo area.
Since 2014, all our land has been cultivated organically and the wine-making also follows this rule.
In 2003 we also opened a small tourist facility, Villa Tiboldi, which is located in our largest vineyard, S.S. Trinità, to let gourmets visiting Langhe Monferrato and Roero experience the true spirit of our territory.
