In the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula, in the region of Catalonia, DO Montsant offers unique wines that speak of how a Mediterranean climate of contrasts, the rugged terrain, the variability of soils, the grape varieties and the hand of man influence to give life to unique wines with identity. Montsant wines bring diversity and enrich the DO, while at the same time defining it as a whole.
Red wines are the most common in the Montsant DO. More than 90% of the grape production corresponds to red varieties, where Grenache and Carignan stand out, as they are the best adapted to the conditions of the DO and the ones that best transmit its identity. Both give full-bodied wines, very suitable for ageing. The red Garnacha has a very sensual aromatic profile, with great complexity, and produces well-structured wines. Cariñena, on the other hand, is aromatically very intense and produces wines with a moderate alcoholic content and very good acidity.
The white wines are mainly made with the two traditional varieties of the area: Garnacha Blanca, with more body and structure, and Macabeo, which produces finer wines. Both are distinguished by their silkiness, structure and elegant and subtle aromas.
