1925
The married couple Anna and Eugen Gatter found the artisan bakery MACK. At that time, the company is called "Bäckerei, Lebensmittel, Kolonialwaren und Kohlenhandlung Eugen Gatter" (Bakery, Food, Colonial Goods and Coal Shop Eugen Gatter) and is based in Aufhausen, a small village near Bopfingen. Eugen Gatter is a master baker, he runs the business until 1955 and then hands it over to his daughter Else, who marries the baker and master confectioner Hans Mack from Schwäbisch Hall and continues the business with him as "Bäckerei Mack und Gatter".

1983
After 58 years, Hans-Günther Mack takes over the business in the third Mack generation, thus keeping the family tradition alive. When the bakery shop in Aufhausen fails to meet demand despite the bakermobile for supplying surrounding villages, Mack opens his first branch in Bopfingen on the market square. With the takeover of his parents' business and the first branch, a breath of fresh air comes into the bakery. So a new name is needed: from now on, bread lovers go to the "Backstube Mack".

1995
The first bakery café opens in Aalen and immediately becomes a popular meeting place for coffee and cake. In the same year, Hans-Günther Mack revolutionises the bakery trade: he overturns the ban on baking on Sundays. From now on, anyone can go to the bakery on Sundays and buy fresh bread rolls. The Bild newspaper dubbed the master baker a "bread rebel".

2000
Mack gets ready for the third millennium: After six months of construction, the bakery moves into the new production hall in Westhausen in September 2000.
