Info:
Österreich Wein Marketing GmbH (ÖWM) has been supporting and coordinating the strategic endeavours of the Austrian wine industry in terms of quality and sales since 1986.

At the centre of the Austrian wine industry's marketing strategy is the quality wine, recognisable by the state test number and the red-white-red band on the capsule. Together with the winegrowing policy, ÖWM places a special focus on quality wines that are particularly typical of the region under DAC origin protection. Together with the University of Vienna, ÖWM has developed the world's first digital wine atlas for an entire wine-growing region to provide information on all Austrian wine origins: riedenkarten.at

Every year, ÖWM organises a large number of events to inspire wine lovers worldwide with Austria's wines. The focus is on the annual SALON Austria Wine - the country's toughest wine competition -, major projects such as VieVinum and participation in international wine fairs such as ProWein and Vinexpo, which are implemented in cooperation with partner organisations.

Further tasks of ÖWM:

- Service organisation for winegrowers
- Image work and public relations
- Creation of information material and training documents based on current market data
- Organisation of masterclasses and flight tastings
- Qualitative market research

Region, territory, area:

Austria is a small country with a wide variety of wines full of character, produced by winemakers who focus on the highest quality and careful use of natural resources.

Today, Austria's wines are appreciated by wine experts and wine lovers all over the world. Their unmistakable, exciting character, for which seven factors are decisive, is particularly noteworthy:

The combination of different climatic zones, the country and its differentiated soil structure, the great diversity of grape varieties, the millennia-old winegrowing culture, the most environmentally conscious cultivation of the vineyards, the excellent price-performance ratio and, finally, the fresh flavour of the wines.

This aromatic freshness despite complete physiological maturity also makes Austrian wines stand out on the international stage. Overall, five large regions (Danube region, Weinviertel, Pannonian climate, Styria and Bergland) can be defined, mainly due to the climatic situation, which are reflected in the basic character of the wines.

Crystalline stone terraces or massive loess layers in Lower Austria, calcareous soils in northern Burgenland and southern Styria or volcanic soils in Kamptal and south-eastern Styria contribute to Austria's great diversity of wines.

This allows successful varieties such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Gelber Muskateller, Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch to mature into independent wines with finesse and character typical of their origin in Austria's regions and vineyards. Varietal rarities such as Zierfandler, Rotgipfler, Roter Veltliner, Neuburger and Wiener Gemischter Satz are equally impressive. Real terroir jewels also include the rosé-coloured Styrian Schilcher from the Blauer Wildbacher variety and the noble sweet Prädikat wines from Lake Neusiedl, especially from the Welschriesling variety.
