Thomas Seeger has led the family's centuries-old winery (founded in 1707) to the top in Germany. Not by investing millions, but with a lot of talent and hard work. His claim sounds simple: wine must taste good.
Quality is created in the vineyard and Thomas Seeger sees it as his task to bring this into the bottle in the straightest possible way. At Seeger's, the vineyards are cultivated in a near-natural way without eco-labelling, and herbicides and insecticides are not used at all.
Strict yield reduction gives the wines structure, fullness and dense, rich fruit. For white wines, the Seeger winery concentrates on Riesling and Pinot varieties, i.e. Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, as well as Auxerrois and Chardonnay on the Badische Bergstrasse. The red wines are Blaufränkisch, Schwarzriesling and above all Pinot Noir. With the exception of the estate wines, these are all matured in small oak barrels. The wines matured there enjoy an international reputation and Thomas Seeger is regarded by experts as an absolute expert in barrique ageing and one of the best representatives of this style in Germany.
Thomas Seeger has won the German Red Wine Award (Vinum) a total of ten times with his wines in recent years. Most recently in 2017 with a Blaufränkisch R (VDP-Grosse Lage) from the Spermen vineyard.
