Weingut Schloss Englar
Info:
In the heart of an estate of outstanding scenic beauty lies the Gothic castle on a gentle hillside.
It is no coincidence that our ancestors chose this location: the high-quality soils and the favourable position result in ideal conditions for high-quality viticulture and, in addition, a wonderful place for an estate.
The land, gently exposed to the east and south at the foot of the mountains, lies between 450 and 550 metres above sea level. The soil structure with limestone gravel and porphyry weathered soils, together with the strong temperature fluctuations between day and night determined by the hilly location, provide excellent conditions for high-quality viticulture
The estate, which extends directly around the historic building with a total area of 13 hectares and of which 8 hectares are currently planted with vines, has been owned by the Count Khuen-Belasi family since 1640. Today, the farm is run by Johannes and Maria Khuen-Belasi
Wine has always been grown here, until 1930 with its own winery, then as suppliers to an important local cooperative. In 2012, the decision was made to start making their own wines again, and in 2014, the first vintage from the Englar winery was bottled.
All grapes come from the estate's own land and are processed and bottled at the estate
