Zeitgeist - awakening - experimental mood
Our Johannes B winery lies and thrives in the middle of the lush orchards of the small town of Fellbach. But before there was wine, there were strawberries: Even before I was born, my parents were growing fruit in the Schmidener Feld, green asparagus followed, as did a broom pub. Of course, this also needed its own wine. But just serving wine in the broom was not enough for me. So while our family history initially sounds traditionally Swabian and down-to-earth, our winery has always been characterised by the spirit of the times, new beginnings and a spirit of experimentation.
Swabian drinking flow meets international esprit
I trained as a cooper, went travelling and returned to Fellbach full of ideas and motivation. That was a few years ago. i founded the winery in 2013 and today we cultivate around 22 hectares in the top locations of Bad Cannstatt, Untertürkheim and Fellbach - our wines grow in Lämmler and Goldberg, Mönchberg and Zuckerle. We bottle 30 per cent red and 70 per cent white. The relatively large diversity of varieties results from my different interests, but also from the many microclimatic characteristics of our scattered vineyards. We are lucky enough to be able to plant many different terroirs. In the glass, however, a red line quickly emerges: Swabian drinking flow meets international esprit.
Local colour and cosmopolitanism
My love of travelling probably interferes with my rather Swabian nature: I have been to beautiful New Zealand several times in recent years to travel and work, and have brought back my cosmopolitan Sauvignon Blanc style from the other side of the world. I love Sauvignon Blanc. It never gets boring! Of course, a Württemberger is still a Württemberger, anything else would be very strange here in Fellbach because of the terroir. For me, it's this combination of local colour and cosmopolitanism that makes it so special.
