When the young architect Elena married into the historic Walch family of winegrowers in Tramin in the 1980s, she had no idea of the great changes she would bring to the South Tyrolean wine world. With commitment and self-confidence, she opted for uncompromising quality. The finest terroir wines from her two single vineyards "Castel Ringberg" in Kaltern and "Kastelaz" in Tramin daringly raised the quality standard of the region to a new level. The path was rocky but probably the right one, and today Elena Walch's highly awarded wines belong to the elite of Italian wine production. A few years ago, both single vineyard sites "Castel Ringberg" and "Kastelaz" were included in the exclusive list of VIGNA vineyards, which guarantees the origin of the single vineyard wines and further underlines Elena Walch's now long-standing philosophy of terroir wines. Sustainable work in the vineyard and wine cellar, with a special focus on promoting the self-protection of the vine, is at the heart of what she does. Today, Elena Walch runs the family winery together with her daughters Julia and Karoline and continues to work ambitiously to ensure that her wines are found on the best wine lists worldwide.
